FREE TAX ASSISTANCE SERVICE

Starting on February 04, 2009 through April 15, 2009, Community Action Council (CAC) in partnership with AARP Tax-Aide, will begin providing free Tax Assistance Services to select Howard County residents.

Who is eligible for service?
*For residents age 60 or older, there is no income limit.
*Residents under age 60 must have an annual individual income of $50,000 or less.

When are appointments available?
Appointments at the Gateway building are scheduled on Wednesdays at the following times:
9.30am, 10.15am, 11.00am, 11.45am, 12.30pm

If you are interested in scheduling an appointment for another time or location, our staff can assist you with information on alternatives.

What to Bring:
•Social Security Card for each person listed on return (filers & dependants).
•Copy of 2007 federal & state returns.
•IRS Form 1378, which the taxpayer received with the Economic Stimulus Payment.
•For Joint Returns, both filers must be present to sign. If one party cannot attend, the other party must have a valid Power of Attorney signed by the absent party or the tax form may be taken to the absent party for signature and returned within three (3) days.
•Income:
•If employed: W-2 form from each employer.
•If unemployed: 1099 form for unemployment compensation payments.
•If retired: 1099 form for Social Security Benefits and 1099R form for income from a pension or annuity.
•Other Income:
•1099 forms for bank interest, mutual fund interest, stock dividends or capital gains.
•State tax refund for 2007.
•Stock sales.
•Any other income.
•Deductions and Credits:
•Day care for children or dependants.
•Education expenses.
•Real estate tax statement(if taxpayer owns a home).

If the taxpayer itemizes deductions:
Bring information about gifts to charity, state income tax, mortgage interest, real estate tax payments and any large unreimbursed medical expenses.

If a refund is expected and the tax payer would like the refund sent directly to a bank account, please bring a blank check only for the purpose of providing routing information to set up direct deposit.

Are any services not offered?

Tax-Aide does not prepare business returns, Non-Maryland State returns, returns involving rental properties or trust accounts or returns involving more than ten (10) stock transactions.
