Nine arrested for DWI/DUI at Howard County sobriety checkpoint
Howard County police conducted a sobriety checkpoint between Friday, June 26,and Saturday, June 27. The checkpoint was established on westbound U.S. 40 at Governor’s Run Lane in Ellicott City.
Approximately 662 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was staffed by Howard County police officers. Sixteen vehicles were pulled over for further examination, and nine drivers were arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. One additional driver was arrested for driving on a suspended driver’s license.
Howard County police will continue to use sobriety checkpoints and saturation
patrols in the future as a means of combating drinking and drugged drivers.
Citizens are reminded that each year, more than 13,000 people are killed in
alcohol-related traffic crashes and/or crashes where safety belts were not used.
Motorists are encouraged to drive safely.
