CAR STRIKES WOMAN ON SIDEWALK

The Traffic Enforcement Section is investigating a Serious Motor Vehicle Collision that occurred on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at approximately 8:53 AM. A woman was walking her dog on the sidewalk of Gray Rock Drive @ Red Bandana Way when a vehicle jumped the curb and struck her.

The vehicle, a Honda Civic had been travelling westbound on Gray Rock Drive when it crossed the double yellow line, jumped the curb, travelled down the sidewalk and struck the woman and her dog. The driver has been identified as Joel Mann, 28 years of age, of the 3400 blk. Plum Tree Drive, Ellicott City. He has been arrested and charged with Driving While Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was not injured.

The woman is identified as Irene Gearratono, 62 years of age, of the 4200 blk. Red Bandana Way. She was flown by Maryland State Police Medivac to the University of Maryland – Shock Trauma and is currently listed in Stable Condition.

The investigation is continuing by Pfc. Bingham.
