Savage man arrested for armed carjacking
Suspect confronted victim in apartment parking lot

Howard County police have charged a Savage man for an armed carjacking on Aug. 28 in Savage where he targeted a victim who lived mere blocks from his residence.

Joseph Charles Taub, 27, of 8552 Storch Woods Drive in Savage, has been charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, theft and other charges.

Police received a call around 6 p.m. on Friday for an armed carjacking. The victim, Sui Men, 30, of the 8900 block of River Island Drive in Savage, was approached while exiting her vehicle in the River Island Apartments parking lot. The suspect displayed a knife and demanded Men’s valuables and car keys. When Men refused, a struggle ensued. The suspect cut her hand with the knife, stole her wallet and keys and fled in the vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Rav-4.

Howard County police entered the vehicle into a law enforcement database as stolen. On Sunday, police received a call from a neighboring jurisdiction that Taub had been detained for a theft in progress and that he was driving the stolen vehicle. Through investigative efforts, police determined Taub to be the perpetrator of the carjacking. He was arrested and charged Sunday. He is being held on no bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
