Sobriety Checkpoint Yields 15 Arrests

The Howard County Department of Police conducted a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint between Friday, May 21, 2010 and Saturday, May 22, 2010. The Checkpoint was established on westbound US Route 40 and Governors Run Way in Ellicott City, Howard County.

Fifteen drivers were arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Driving While Impaired by Alcohol or Drugs. One additional driver was arrested on a US Customs Warrant.

680 vehicles passed through the Checkpoint, which was staffed by Howard County Police Officers, and Maryland State Police. Members of the Howard County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) also provided assistance during the checkpoint.

Drivers that passed through the checkpoint and were not arrested were given an informational handout containing DUI facts and statistics.

The Howard County Department of Police continues to use Sobriety Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols as a means of combating Drinking and Drugged Drivers.
